當人感到恐懼時，杏仁核會迅速向身體發出危險訊號，引發fight-or-flight的反應。而當大腦被恐懼淹沒時，前額葉皮質暫時失能，無法進行策略或複雜的思考。此時的恐懼實際上就是“心靈殺手”，扼殺心智的思考能力，使得我們更容易採取動物直覺的本能反應，而不是人類思考的解決方案。

此外，現在心理學也支持避免負面情緒往往會使負面情緒變得更強烈。事實上，面對、接受我們的恐懼才是正確的出路。是不是像寧靜祈禱文所說，接受你無法改變的事情，但去做你可以改變的事情。

最後，這就是為什麼讓恐懼經過我們，並穿越我們是關鍵。這種正念為基礎的行動提醒我們，我們與恐懼這兩個課題是分開的：我們可以觀察我們的恐懼，讓它從我們身邊過去。我們可以體驗它而不被它損壞。

當我們可以處理我們的恐懼體驗，我們就會知道「恐懼消失的地方將一無所有」──恐懼已經真正離開我們了。還有什麼比這句話更有力地表達信心和勝利：“只有我會留下來。”這就是用心面對我們的恐懼並處理它們所教導我們的：我們仍然存在。

Life of Pi 少年Pi的奇幻漂流

即使大家填寫的內容有些差異，都很正常，並不妨礙我們了解這個故事的大框架。

2. 劉慈欣的三體裡有句話，"失去人性，失去很多； 失去獸性，失去一切。" 有點似曾相識!?

Assignment: Hero's Journey

我們全家一起看過的電影中，許多都有英雄旅程的影子，比如我們討論過的Wall-E、Dr. Strange、Titanic...等等，其實Marvel漫威電影宇宙的super heros幾乎都是運用這個套路。而Wall-E和Titanic也說明過，除了男、女主角在經歷自己的英雄旅程之外，他們的旅程也會重疊交織，互為彼此的角色，其他配角與小龍套在電影裡也是可以有自己的英雄之路喔，雖說故事套路就一種，那應用起來也是千變萬化。

我已經拿這個月一起看的King Richard再做了一次示範，你們也試試看，我的建議是Life of Pi，你們都是中學生了，當然要找有挑戰性的。

King Richard 王者理查

《王者理查》是一部關於威廉絲姊妹（Serena 和 Venus Williams）的父親理查威廉絲(Richard Williams)的敘述性傳記電影，講述了他如何帶領自己的女兒成為網球界傳奇人物的故事。劇情流暢易懂，影片聚焦於家庭和追夢的歷程，查理有很多價值觀造就了女兒，值得大家參考，比如，沒有人會計畫失敗，只會失敗在沒有計畫、沒人會比你更知道自己的價值、沒有贏球依然光榮，因為人生還有很多可以學習的事物、謙遜與受教育的重要等等，但我們也可以從英雄之旅的框架來看看這個故事起承轉合的巧妙。

"King Richard" is a biographical film about Richard Williams, the father of the Williams sisters (Serena and Venus Williams), telling the story of how he led his daughters to become legends in the tennis world. Although the film still focuses on family and the pursuit of dreams, it can still be analyzed from the framework of the Hero's Journey.

1. 平凡世界（Ordinary World）：

Richard全家住在加州康普頓，靠著Richard擔任夜間保全和他的妻子Brandi擔任護士的微薄收入維持生計。他們居住在黑人貧民窟，面臨暴力、毒品、幫派鬥爭等混亂的威脅，過著平凡卻艱辛的生活。

Richard's family lives in Compton, California, and survives on the meager income of Richard's night shift as a security guard and his wife Brandi's work as a nurse. They live in black slums, facing the threat of violence, drugs, gang fights and other chaos, and lead an ordinary but difficult life.

2. 冒險召喚（Call to Adventure）：

Richard的冒險召喚來自他的願景：兩個女兒將成為網球冠軍。他擬定了78頁的計劃，並開始訓練她們，儘管他們的背景與資源不足以進入網球這樣的精英運動。

Richard's call to adventure came from his vision: his two daughters would become tennis champions. He drew up a 78-page plan and began training them, despite their backgrounds and resources not being able to enter an elite sport like tennis.

3. 拒絕召喚（Refuse of the Call）：
從某種程度上，女兒們並沒有明確地拒斥召喚，但Richard面臨著諸多外界的質疑和困難，例如鄰居關切、沒有教練願意免費指導、經濟壓力大種種問題等，這使得他的計劃推進並不順利，在一定程度上可視為對“冒險召喚”的一種潛在拒斥因素。

To some extent, the daughters did not explicitly reject the call, but Richard faced many external doubts and difficulties, such as concerns from neighbors, no coaches willing to provide free guidance, and financial pressure, which made it difficult for him to move forward with his plan. It is not smooth, which can be seen as a potential rejection factor of the "call to adventure" to a certain extent.

4. 遇見導師（Meeting the Mentor）：
Richard找到網球教練Paul Cohen和Rick Macci。他們對Venus和Serena的天賦深感驚訝，並幫助她們在競技場上進一步發展，儘管Richard對訓練過程有自己的堅定想法。

Richard found tennis coaches Paul Cohen and Rick Macci. They were amazed by the talents of Venus and Serena and helped them develop further in the arena, although Richard had his own firm ideas about the training process.

5. 跨越第一道門檻（Crossing the First Threshold）：

Venus開始參加少年網球比賽並取得成功，這是她們邁向更大舞台的第一步。這象徵著Williams一家進入「未知的世界」：職業球員之路。

Venus began to compete in junior tennis tournaments and achieved success, which was their first step towards a bigger stage. This symbolizes the Williams family's entry into the "unknown world": the path of professional players.

6. 測試、盟友與敵人（Tests, Allies, Enemies）：

在訓練和比賽過程中，女兒們面臨著各種考驗，比如對手不誠實干擾比賽、妹妹想追趕姐姐的水平等等。最後，Richard選擇與教練Rick Macci合作，舉家搬遷到佛羅里達州，女兒們開始接受更專業、更有系統的網球訓練，但Richard仍與專業教練、贊助商、經紀人之間有著許多意見相左與衝突。他必須在保護女兒成長的同時，對抗外界的不信任與偏見。

During training and competition, the daughters faced various tests, such as opponents dishonestly interfering with the game, the younger sister wanting to catch up with the older sister's level, and so on. Finally, Richard chose to work with coach Rick Macci and moved his family to Florida. His daughters began to receive more professional and systematic tennis training, but Richard still had many disagreements and conflicts with professional coaches, sponsors, and agents. He must protect his daughter's growth while fighting against the distrust and prejudice of the outside world.

7. 接近洞穴（Approach to the Innermost Cave）：

Venus向教練表示自己有意願參賽轉為職業選手，Nike的高管帶著價值300萬美元的贊助協議前來討論商業合作等，這標誌著前方充滿了不確定性和潛在的危險。這也是Richard作為父親和教練必須放手的重要時刻。

Venus expressed to her coach her desire to compete and become a professional player, and Nike executives came with a sponsorship deal worth $3 million to discuss business cooperation, etc., which indicated that the road ahead was full of uncertainty and potential dangers. This was also an important moment for Richard as a father and coach to let go.

8. 重大考驗（The Ordeal）：

Venus在與世界排位第一的選手比賽時，對手在比賽間隙以上廁所為理由拖延時間，最終輸掉了比賽。這對Venus以及整個家庭來說都是一次不小的磨難，讓她們意識到在職業網球的道路上會遇到各種意想不到的困難和挫折。

When Venus was playing against the world's top-ranked player, her opponent used going to the bathroom as an excuse to delay time during the game and ultimately lost the game. This was a great ordeal for Venus and the entire family, making them realize that they would encounter all kinds of unexpected difficulties and setbacks on the road to professional tennis.

9. 獲得獎賞（Reward）：

儘管比賽失利，Venus的表現贏得了廣泛關注，為她未來的成功鋪平了道路。Richard的計劃證明了他的遠見，也讓家庭對未來充滿希望。

Despite the loss, Venus' performance garnered widespread attention, paving the way for her future success. Richard's plan demonstrates his foresight and gives the family hope for the future.

10. 返回之路（The Road Back）：

電影中沒有明顯的「返回的路」這一階段，因為姐妹倆的網球生涯還在繼續，但可以理解為她們在取得一定成績後，開始思考如何在職業網球和家庭、生活之間找到平衡，以及如何面對未來更多的挑戰，這是一種精神上的「返回的路」。

There is no obvious "the road back" stage in the movie, because the sisters' tennis careers are still going on, but it can be understood that after achieving certain results, they began to think about how to find a balance between professional tennis, family, and life. And how to face more challenges in the future, this is a spiritual "the road back".

11. 復甦（Resurrection）：

電影中也沒有類似傳統意義上的「復活」情節，但Richard學會平衡對女兒的控制和讓她們自己決定的自由。他的角色不僅是一個教練，更是一個父親，這種成長體現了他在人生旅程中的轉變。此外，Venus在輸掉與世界第一選手的比賽後，家人的鼓勵和支持讓她重新振作起來，再次投入比賽並取得勝利，可以看作是一種精神上的復活，讓她更加堅定地走在職業網球的道路上。

There's no traditional "resurrection" plot in the movie, but Richard learns to balance control over his daughters with the freedom to let them make their own decisions. His role is not only that of a coach but also that of a father, and this growth reflects the transformation he has experienced in his life journey. In addition, after Venus lost the match against the world's number one player, the encouragement and support from her family helped her to pick herself up and compete again and win. This can be seen as a spiritual resurrection, making her more determined to move forward. On the road to professional tennis.

12. 帶回寶藏（Return with the Elixir）：

The Hero's Journey

 As far as I know, the Hero's journey formula was developed by mythologist Joseph Campbell, who described the basic narrative pattern in his 1949 work, The Hero with a Thousand Faces:

“A hero ventures from the ordinary world into an extraordinary one—acquires mythical powers, and achieves a decisive victory—the hero returns from this mysterious adventure with certain abilities to share the benefits with his fellow men.

Indeed, many movies can be understood and explained using the hero's journey thinking.
